Ann Arbor teenager develops bright idea for lights on shoes

date:

August 11,2016.

ANN ARBOR, MI -- With flashing lights on his shoes, it's hard to miss 17-year-old Mustafa Syed when he's out and about on a Friday night in downtown Ann Arbor.

That's exactly what he wants.

At 6-foot-7, his height alone catches the eye. But he wants people to focus on his feet. Syed is creator of Lazerr Footwear, a company that makes battery-charged electroluminescent lights to wear on the outside of sneakers.

And when he wears the unique shoe attachments during a night out on the town, it's easy to see why he thinks the business will be a success.

The colored lights add a new dimension to the shoes as they not only are useful for runners looking for another way to stay safe, but they're fashionable as well.

"People were stopping me left and right asking me how I did this and I knew right away that I had something very special," Syed said.

A self-described entrepreneur at heart, Syed is an Ann Arbor resident who will be a senior at Skyline High School this fall, but he's long been working toward creating a business of his own that will solve problems for people.

However, once he found the idea that he thinks will be a success, it presented a new batch of troubles.
